John McCarthy was born on September 4, 1927. He is from Boston, Massachussetts. He unfortunately died October 24, 2011. John McCarthy was considered a pioneer in the field of Artifical Intelligence. John McCarthy received a bachelor's degree in math from Cal Tech and a doctorate's degree from MIT. He was also a professor at Dartmouth, MIT, and Stanford. At Stanford, he founded the Stanford Artifical Intelligence Lab. He also received a National Medal of Science, and a Benjamin Franklin award for his works. John McCarthy created the programming language LISP and Elephant 2000 which is another programming language. John McCarthy has impacted computer science immensely.
